The trip begins

I started the trip on Monday with a short drive in the pouring rain to Coos Bay, Oregon where I visited friends from Boulder who have recently moved to the Oregon Coast. I got a rather late start because I needed to watch 3 hours of Continuing Legal Education credits on video to complete my CLE requirements for year. Then I finished packing and loading the car and cleaned out the open food that did not want to find when I got home, I only had to return one time to grab something I realized I’d forgotten and then off I went. The advantage of this start was that after dinner with friends on Monday night I was all packed and loaded and ready to leave early Tuesday morning. I stopped in Gold Beach for breakfast (at a place I had discovered on my trip down the coast last spring and read about the earthquake that had just struck near Arcata ahead of me and the landslides that had closed the roads behind me.

It rained the whole day but still I enjoyed the beauty of the Oregon Coast as I drove.

I stopped and am spending the night in Arcata, California which has always been one of my favorite places. I had blackened fish tacos at an amazing little food truck (loco fish) that I had discovered many years ago while driving the coast with my younger daughter.
