Here’s the deal

Democrats are terrified that they made a mistake in renominating President Joe Biden for a second term. It’s called buyer’s remorse. There certainly was a time to convince him not to run for re-election. For a variety of reasons, no leading Democrat challenged or even questioned Biden’s renomination a year ago when there was time for a legitimate primary campaign. That doesn’t mean that the fear (terror) that many are feeling isn’t legitimate or reasonable. It means they have to accept the reality that they created.

Every effort to remove Biden from the ticket right now merely serves to keep attention on Biden’s age. Face it. He is old and not getting any younger. Every day that media attention is focused on Biden’s age and the question of whether or not he will stay on the ticket is another day that the media attention is not focused on the genuinely horrible consequences of Trump’s election to a second term.

Let’s remember. (my list)

1. If elected Trump will nominate at least two more Supreme Court Justices to replace aging MAGA justices Thomas and Alito. That is end of story for the Supreme Court for the next 20-30 years. Trump will get to nominate more District Court and Court of Appeals judges like Aileen Cannon. That will be the end of the story for the hope of justice in the Federal Court system for the next 20-30 years.
2. If elected Trump will sign a law restricting abortion right nationwide.
3. If elected Trump will push an expansion of his prior tax cuts for billionaires and corporations.
4. If elected Trump intends to use the military to round up millions of our undocumented neighbors and put them in holding centers (not to be called concentration camps) before deportation.

There remains two totally separate topics that are being conflated.

1. Biden is not the best candidate the Democrats could have nominated. Everything about his presentation screams out the fact that he is old.
2. The choice however is between Biden and Trump and progressives need to call attention to the many ways that Biden is a critically better choice than Trump.
