What Israel Should Do Next

In my opinion, Israel should offer to Hamas and the world a simple and unconditional end to the war and withdrawal from Gaza in return for the release of all remaining hostages (living and dead). There should be no further trading of hostages for convicted terrorists and murderers, nor should they worry at this time about what comes next. It is of course a less-than-optimal result for this brutal and expensive war and will likely lead to the collapse of the Netanyahu coalition and bring on new Israeli elections.

I doubt that Netanyahu will choose this option (because it will cause the fall of his government) or that Hamas will agree to it if offered.

It will be a tragedy for the civilians in Gaza do endure everything they have suffered and have to return to tyrannical rule by Hamas but that is not Israel’s problem at this time. Perhaps the world will step in and condition reconstruction of Gaza on surrender by Hamas of its remaining weaponry. Perhaps the world (and particularly the Arab countries) will step in and create a governing force to help transition Gaza away from Hamas. That also is not Israel’s problem.

Israel has the right to a safe border and can, should and of course will prevent anyone from Gaza from entering Israel without their permission.

Israel has the right to self-defense and of course can act if Hamas rearms itself and attacks them again.
