Please Joe. Just say No.

Maybe its because I grew up a fan of the expansion New York Mets baseball team and watched them acquire a series of past their prime former stars.   Starting with Duke Snyder who joined the Mets in 1963 at age 37, Warren Spahn who joined them in 1965 at age 44, Yogi Berra who joined them in 1965 at age 41 and finally the great Willie Mays who was 41 years old when he came back to NY in 1972.

Maybe it’s because I took care of my mom during the last years of her life when she was in her 80’s and early 90’s.

Maybe its because I am about to turn 70 and am aware of the changes that are starting to happen (to my mind as well as to my body).

I pray that those close to Joe Biden help convince him not to run for re-election as President.     It’s not even so much that I have an opinion about whether or not he is able to be as a good a President for the next four years as he was for the past four.   It’s that I am absolutely certain that he is not able to be a good candidate for President.

He is likely to be the worst possible candidate the Democrats can nominate in 2024 because he doesn’t appear able to serve as president.   He walks like an old man.      He makes many more verbal mistakes then he did ten years ago and none of that is going to get any better in the next year before the 2024 campaign begins.

Most importantly he is perceived by many voters (fairly or not) as no longer competent.    Most likely most devoted Democrats will vote for him no matter what and most devoted Republicans will vote against any Democratic nominee no matter what but there are voters in the middle who will determine the fate of the 2024 election.

Joe Biden simply cannot afford to be responsible for the Republicans winning back the Presidency in 2024.

The Democrats did better than expected in the midterms in spite of Biden’s unpopularity not because of him. Call it a win and go out a winner.

With a Democratic majority in the Senate and a very tightly divided House (no matter how it ends up) focus your energy on being the best President possible for the final two years of your term.

Please Joe.  Just say no.
